News from the Lab: Where Robots Paint, We Document, and Sometimes, Things Go Exactly as Planned

Update 14: Festival Fame and First Strokes!

10-19-2024

Breaking news: Bob has officially made his debut at the MATE Festival! That’s right – we somehow managed to wrangle Bob into painting his very first masterpiece (or something close). Amid curious stares and a few “Is it supposed to do that?” comments, Bob dazzled the crowd, proving that yes, a robot can indeed sort of paint.

We proudly present Bob's inaugural artwork, now slightly more than just test splatters and calibration lines. It’s bold, it’s brave… it might even be art!

Update 13: Money and Fame!

08-13-2024

Announcement: We’ve achieved the long-awaited Twitch affiliation, which means we can finally start making money with Bob. Art really does pay off, doesn’t it?

On top of that, we’ve been selected to talk about our project at a Festival. Yes, it’s true, we couldn’t even finish a website on time, nor get Bob to paint, but it has to be done. Who would’ve thought that “Bob can’t fall” would be such a popular topic? Get ready for the show – and maybe a few secrets on how to keep a robot standing (hint: the base is everything).

Update 12: Website Now Under Construction

07-31-2024

"Welcome to the Construction Zone: Where Nothing Is As It Should Be, But Everything Is About to Get Better"

In this vast expanse of pixels and code, we're currently hard at work building something truly extraordinary. Yes, you've stumbled upon our construction site, a place where chaos reigns supreme and order is merely a distant memory. But fear not! This is the perfect opportunity to witness the birth of something magnificent, right before your very eyes.

Update 11: Bob’s Day of Fame

07-30-2024

Announcement: We put Bob in the spotlight and gave him the possibility to appear in a Festival. However, he is still unfinished. However with his type attitude, it became difficult to get him popular to get likes from people, in the Mate Festival (Portugal). Soon we will know the results of either happiness or a completely shameful display from Bob.

Update 10: Bob’s Day Off

07-28-2024

We had a minor setback last week when a coworker sustained a paper cut while reading the assembly instructions. They’ll make a full recovery, but it just goes to show – art can be dangerous. Safety first, folks!

Update 9: More to Come

07-27-2024

Announcement: We reached 50 followers on Twitch! We got one step closer to getting affiliated, which means nothing for you really, but we can get money? More updates, more streams, and more robotic shenanigans are on the way. Bob is gearing up for world domination – one brushstroke at a time and totally up to your commands.

Update 8: Second Stream – 2nd Prototype Done

07-23-2024

Announcement: Second stream, second prototype! Bob 2.0 (yes, we skipped a few versions) now moves with the grace of a caffeinated squirrel. Stay tuned for more art, and possibly minor injuries (kidding, mostly).

Update 7: First Stream – Bob Takes the Stage

07-17-2024

Announcement: Our first Twitch stream was a wild success! Well, mostly. We had some technical difficulties, a few existential crises, and… He wasn't moving much. But he appeared on camera, a little shy at first.

Update 6: The Great Base Conundrum

07-16-2024

Announcement: Today it is an important day, but Bob kept falling. Important lesson learned: a robot without a solid base is just a fancy paperweight. After numerous faceplants, we’re happy to report that Bob now stands tall (and stays standing). Also, we’ve launched our Twitch channel! Tune in to see Bob Live and the team fumble their way through the wonders of live streaming here: www.twitch.tv/paintingforever. Everything is going as planned.

Update 5: Prototype 1.2 – Bob 2.0? Change Again the 1st Prototype

07-15-2024

Announcement: Bob has undergone yet another transformation. With upgrades and modifications, Bob 1.2 is ready to take on the art world. Or at least, not fall over immediately. We changed the base for that ungrateful robot. Yes, we took days doing that. Just that.

Update 4: Prototype 1.1 – Bob Gets a Makeover

07-09-2024

Announcement: After some Bob’s recent activity - throwing himself out of it’s forever service to humanity -, Bob 1.1 is here. Now with 50% more screws and a new holder for the brushes. He is still not appreciative or cooperative.

Update 3: Prototype 1.0 – The Birth of Bob

07-07-2024

Announcement: Meet Bob, our first prototype! Bob can wave, kind of. Bob is having some spasms problems, but hey, it’s a start. He hasn’t started painting yet, and he is not very bright.

Update 2: It Begins

07-02-2024

Announcement: We’ve officially started the Painting Forever project! A few overly ambitious plans, and a surprisingly accurate Wikipedia article, we dive into the unknown. However, our department needed some repaint again, according to our robot. They thought that the red color was too much. Anyway, we couldn't put our workers' health in jeopardy, so we decided to delay everything and not start anything.

Update 1: Acquisition and Ambition

06-01-2024

Announcement: Great news, we got financed by a crazy person! We’ve just executed our first mission: purchasing necessary and unnecessary materials that will one day make history. Or at least, something.
